The window is now open to submit a proposal to the National Social Studies Leaders Association (NSSLA) 55th Annual Conference. The deadline to submit is February 28, 2025 at 11:59 pm Eastern Time. Conference themes, submission instructions, and general information can be found here. 

Apply for a 2025 NEH Landmarks or Institutes Program

Applications are now open to participate in a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Landmarks or Institutes program. Landmarks and Institutes are tuition-free opportunities for K-12 educators, higher education faculty, advanced graduate students, and other humanities professionals to delve deeply into a humanities topic in a one- to four-week residential, virtual, or combined format program. All participants receive a stipend to help cover expenses. The full list of programs is available here. Applications are due by 11:59 pm Pacific Time on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.

NCSS is pleased to invite you to register for our Spring 2025 Webinar Series, which is free to all NCSS members! Each session provides an opportunity to engage in expert-led discussions on critical topics in social studies education. This series will premiere on January 30, 2025 with Expanding Liberty and Equality: Agency, Abolition, and Suffrage, led by Adrienne Stang and Adrianne Billingham Bock of Cambridge Public Schools and the Democratic Knowledge Project, respectively. Applications Now Open For Climate Justice NEH Institute 2025

Introducing the Center's NEH Institute 2025: Teaching Climate Justice with Young People's Literature

Hosted by the Center for Climate Literacy at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, Teaching Climate Justice with Young People’s Literatures and Media will bring together 25 K12 teachers to explore how stories can empower young people to develop the skills, attitudes, values, and beliefs necessary to advance climate justice. From June 30-July 3, 2025, the Institute will be on Zoom. From July 14-25, the participants will convene in-person on the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities Campus. Together, participants will:

  • Study climate justice theory and pedagogy
  • Read and discuss literature for young people
  • Engage with leading climate justice scholars, activists, authors, and educators
  • Develop open-access educational materials  
  • Grow our community of climate justice educators
  • Receive a $2850 stipend (taxable as income) to offset the cost of travel and lodging + books and other materials
