International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples

August 9th is the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, established in 1994 to recognize and raise awareness for the needs, rights, and historical mistreatment of Indigenous communities across the globe. The image commonly associated with this day, "Handshake", was created for the United Nations by Rebang Dewan of the Chakma community of Bangladesh at age 12. Below are a few selected resources for including Indigenous voices in the classroom and confronting the perspective of settler colonialism.

Confronting Complex Themes In Contested Spaces

The National Social Studies Supervisors Association (NSSSA) Board of Directors established the Outstanding Social Studies Supervisor Award to recognize members who best exemplify the qualities of leadership expressed in the NSSSA Position Statement on the Role of the Social Studies Supervisor.
