International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples
August 9th is the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, established in 1994 to recognize and raise awareness for the needs, rights, and historical mistreatment of Indigenous communities across the globe. The image commonly associated with this day, "Handshake", was created for the United Nations by Rebang Dewan of the Chakma community of Bangladesh at age 12. Below are a few selected resources for including Indigenous voices in the classroom and confronting the perspective of settler colonialism.
