Biography

Dr. Sohyun An is a full professor of social studies education at Kennesaw State University.  She received B.S. and M.S. degrees in social studies education from Seoul National University in South Korea, and Ph.D. degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. A former high school social studies teacher in South Korea, she is currently a teacher educator of elementary social studies education. Before joining KSU, she taught at Augustana College in Illinois. Dr. An is a critical race motherscholar and teacher educator. She studies, teaches, and parents with a hope for anti-racist, anti-oppressive school and society for all children. Her research centers on social studies/teacher education from Critical Race Theory, AsianCrit, social justice, and critical civic literacy perspectives.
